- Dust lightly. Use a soft brush to lightly remove any dust from the surface of your awning cover. Only dust your cover when it’s completely dry.
- Remove debris immediately. Leaves, sticks, twigs and other small debris should be removed as soon as possible from your awning cover with a light brush.
- Wipe away stains. We recommend using a mixture of lukewarm water and a gentle detergent to clean any stains from your awning cover. Rinse lightly afterwards to remove any leftover residue.

Yes. Markilux’s solar protection fabrics are made using a finish that repels small amounts of water including light rain. However, we recommend retracting your Markilux awning during prolonged, heavy rainfall to avoid damage. Extend your awning after wet weather to ensure it can dry properly, as damp awnings can lead to patchy markings and moss forming on the awning’s surface.
The “cassette” refers to the case that your awning extends and retracts into. There are several types of cassettes that feature unique benefits depending on your needs.
- Full-cassette awnings — A full-cassette retracts your awning for complete protection from the rain, wind and extreme sunlight. They also fold in the fabric cover, roller and arms of your awning to protect your entire awning system. Many people prefer full-cassette awnings because of their sleek, stylish appearance when closed.
- Semi-cassette awnings — Like the name implies, a semi-cassette awning allows you to partially retract your awning and provide some cover for the fabric, roller and arms. They’re generally recommended for sheltered outdoor areas where your awnings already have some existing protection.
- Open awnings — Open awnings leave the awning, arms and roller exposed to the elements. Much like semi-cassette awnings, open awnings provide limited protection for your awning system and are mainly recommended for areas that already have enough existing cover, such as an overhanging roof.
The right awning for you will depend on the size of your outdoor area and its current level of protection. Open awnings are the most affordable choice, but they provide less protection than semi-cassette and full-cassette awnings. Full-cassette systems give you the most protection but also require more space, as a larger case is required to fit the arms and roller inside the unit.
